Year in Review
The Angels Network closes out 2006 with a deep sense of gratitude to you, our friends and colleagues, our sponsors and hosts, and to all who have made our year of giving a successful one. The three receptions we held in 2006 raised funds for nearly $20,000 in grants to Shelter House, CrossWay Community, and N Street Village, three non-profit groups that provide transitional housing and services for homeless families. Our heartfelt thanks to all of you for your contributions to these wonderful charities.
If you attended our receptions, you remember the incredible stories told by women who received the love, support, and skills to get back on their feet. You remember the personal stories of the once homeless, unemployed mother, now working a full time job, and living in a well appointed apartment; the mother of four struggling to get back on her feet and making great progress; and the incredibly energetic, once addicted and hopeless young woman who is now recovered and giving others the help they need to turn their lives around.
All of these women represent the families that you touch when you come to an Angels Network event. With the support of these wonderful community-based groups, and the direct proceeds from our events, their stories of desperation have become stories of hope. The Angels Network’s goal is to support the grass roots organizations in our own backyard that help families regain their dignity, assist parents in learning the skills they need to work, and support them in establishing a home environment for raising healthy children.
For 2007, I am pleased to announce that we have scheduled three receptions for this year to continue our support for organizations that provide transitional housing services for families:
- Borromeo Housing, March 28, 6:30pm (McGuire Woods, 1750 Tysons Blvd, McLean)
- Shelter House, June 6, 7, or 8 (exact date TBD)
- N Street Village, October 18 6:30pm
In addition to introducing the work of these wonderful organizations, Angel receptions provide ample opportunities for networking with other professionals from the business community. And, along with the food and wine donated by our generous sponsors, there is a live auction of three or four unique items, with all funds from the auction going to the charity we honor that evening. [If you have an auction item to donate, please contact Karen Wrege (kwrege@gmail.com), our auction chief, to work out the details.]
The Angels Network is a component fund of the Northern Virginia Community Foundation, which gives us non-profit status and provides administration and fund investment services for a small fee. The Angels Board decided this year to allocate a small percentage of our fund to the Foundation’s community fund to support the most critical social service needs. It is an additional opportunity for the Angels to make a difference in the community.
Our accomplishments this year would not have been possible without your generous support and the continuing dedication and hard work of our volunteer Board. I know you will join me in extending a welcome to the new Board members who joined the Angels in 2006 — Holly Carnevale, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Denise Miller, The MITRE Corporation, and Theda Parrish, The MITRE Corporation.
Following is a list of our Board members and their email addresses. If you wish to help by sponsoring a program or donating an auction item — or if you would like to roll up your sleeves and work on our programs or operations — we would be delighted to hear from you. The Angels Network is a giving circle that connects you with the charitable groups that are truly the soul of our community. If you have ideas and suggestions for expanding our work in the community, please contact me.
The Angels wish you all the best for a healthy and happy New Year. We look forward to seeing you on March 28th.
Warm regards,
Cathy Lange
September 14, 2006 Reception
The Angels Network event on September 14, 2006 benefited N Street Village, a non-profit organization in the District of Columbia that helps homeless and low-income women to improve their quality of life. The evening reception, generously hosted by Don Beyer Volvo in the company’s showroom in Falls Church, raised over $5,000 for N Street Village. Check out pictures from the event at www.annelord
